Salt Lake City, UT

This is part 3 and the final leg of our trip west.  Please visit our travel page to see all the places we visited along the way.

We stayed a couple of days in Salt Lake and we had a great time trying some of their restaurants. Gracies was our first choice where Tom had the Mahi Mahi Fish tacos which were good but my Gracie’s Mac & Cheese which had lump crab and shrimp with Gruyere, mozzarella and cheddar cheese was fantastic. Lots of times Mac and cheese is kind of dry but this was creamy, perfectly seasoned and had a crunchy Parmesan topping. Yum. While touring the temple area we grabbed a light lunch at the Blue Lemon where I had their lemon chicken & gnocchi soup and tom had a chicken salad. These hit the spot and the food was nice. We also visited a microbrew called Squatters twice as we like their brews so much. They have a nice big inside area and also a great outside patio.

For dinner on our last night we went to Current Fish & Oyster which was highly rated.   And we definitely know why.   We started with Orange wine which we have never had.   Evidently it gets its color not from oranges but from leaving the skin on the grapes during fermentation.   The one we tried was from Spain and was very good.   We are going to have to look into some of this in our area.   For an appetizer we tried the Smoked Salmon which came in a small glass dish topped with a lemon horseradish creme fraiche and capers.   It was served with crisps.   This dish was good and also very filling.  And points as always for presentation.  As entrees we had the seared scallops which were served with quinoa, plantain, pepitas, aji amarillo, baco and chimichurri; as well as the Wild Caught Black Cod served with roasted potatoes, caramelized fennel, tomato pernod and saffron cream.   Both were presented and tasted fantastic.   And we finished off  the meal with the Yuzu Posset which I would slightly equate to a panna cotta however with the rosemary gel, the olive oil powder and the sesame tuile, it was one of the best desserts we have ever eaten.   We love when restaurants take extra steps in presentation of their wonderful food and this place executed everything perfectly.   Definitely our recommendation for dinner in Salt Lake.

And that was the end of our trip.   We hope you enjoyed our blogs about the trip.   Be sure to check out our Travel page for all the sites that we saw and feel free to comment or send any questions you may have.   And as always Enjoy!
